Washington Girls GolfPlaying on a warm and humid afternoon at Wolf Hollow Golf Club on Thursday, Sept. 12, the Washington High School girls golf team registered a dual meet victory over Ft. Zumwalt North, 209-211.

Leading the Lady Jays was junior Mia Lanemann, who carded a nine-hole round of 48 to earn medalist honors.

“Mia shot under 50 for the first time in her career,” said Washington Golf Coach Adam Fischer. “She has played well the last few times on the course. She has remained focused for every shot and has been able to forget the bad shots pretty quickly.”

Grace Bryson, a junior, finished the match with score of 52. Joie Heien, a junior, put together a round of 54.

Also playing for Washington were sophomores Kyla Engemann with a 55, Emily Molitor with a 60 and Emma Lock with a 62.

Washington also had two junior varsity golfers on the course in freshman Isabella Fitzgerald and junior Clairese Kluba.

“This week we played better because we had more focus during the round. We really worked on our short games the last 10 days and the girls are starting to see the results,” Fischer said. “We have a long way to go as a program, but I hope the girls can see the hard work they have put in over the last week-and-a-half has started to pay off. If we keep working like this outside of playing in our matches, the girls will continue to see success.”
