Augusta Red Ribbon AssemblyAugusta Elementary School held a Red Ribbon Week assembly on Tuesday morning, Oct. 30.

Red Ribbon Week is a national campaign focusing on drug awareness. Buildings throughout the School District of Washington are recognizing Red Ribbon Week.

Augusta Elementary students heard from guest speakers about the importance of saying no to drugs. Speaking were:

Dave Burke, Washington Police Officer and School Resource Officer.

Eric Dobelmann, representing the Washington Elks (sponsoring Red Ribbon Week). He works for Gateway Drug Screening and the Franklin County Narcotics Enforcement Unit.

Jessie Tollison, Augusta Elementary alum and wife of Washington Police Officer Doug Tollison.

Representing the Washington High School boys basketball team were Head Coach Grant Young and current players Rett Corley, Colton Souders and Jeremiah Broadbent.

Also on hand were Captain Jim Armstrong and Lt. Mark Lindgren from the Washington Police Department.

The basketball players spoke about the importance of not using drugs. They also showcased their basketball skills and gave away prizes.
