RATIONALE FOR ART

The art program also provides students an understanding of various cultures and the arts. Art is a way of knowing. Students in this program grow in their ability to understand their world when they learn the visual arts. As they create artworks, they learn to express themselves, use creative problem solving and how to communicate visually.

The Washington High School Art program 9 - 12 is designed to help young adults develop creative and critical thinking skills. I also helps the student learn to solve problems and communicate effectively within and beyond the classroom. Artistic processes encourage students to internalize standards and work toward achievement of excellence in production of artwork. Aesthetics, art history, and art criticism study enables students to be visually literate consumers of art and to understand their own, and other cultures. At the high school level, the arts also provide career and avocational opportunities for the gifted and interested students.
