Washington High School soccer player Ottmar Escalante is the Washington Missourian Athlete of the Week, sponsored by First State Community Bank.
Escalante, a senior goalie, was named to the Hillsboro All-Tournament Team, helping the Blue Jays to a second place finish after losing in overtime to Cape Central in the championship match.
“Ottmar made an unbelievable post-to-post save in the championship game to keep the score 0-0 at the time,” said Washington Head Coach Derek Schriewer.
Escalante ended up with five saves for the game and 17 in the tournament.
“Ottmar is a quality goalkeeper who has been crucial to the team’s success,” Schriewer said.
On the season, Escalante owns a 7-6-1 record, allowing only 20 goals in 14 games and a save percentage of .841.
