Mia Reed Leads WHS at State Cross Country Meet

State Cross Country MeetCompeting at the MSHSAA Cross Country Championships at Gans Creek in Columbia on Saturday, Nov. 9, Washington High School’s Mia Reed earned all-state honors in Class 4 by placing in the top 25 of the girls individual standings.

Reed, a junior, captured her second career state medal in three trips to the state meet by finishing in 12th place in a time of 18:53.4.

Washington freshman Julia Donnelly placed just outside of the medals by finishing in 29th place in 19:17.8.

Also running for the Lady Jays were junior Jessica Donnelly (61st in 19:47.2), junior McKenna Jacquin (153rd in 21:14.8), junior Lilly Nix (162nd in 21:54), freshman Nina Zimmermann (164th in 22:09) and junior Allison Meyer (167th in 22:21). It was Jessica Donnelly's second appearance at the state meet.

Rock Bridge freshman Carolyn Ford won the Class 4 girls race in 18:08.6.

Washington placed 14th in the Class 4 girls team standings with 262. Lee’s Summit West claimed the Class 4 girls title with 109.

With no seniors on the roster, the Lady Jays figure to have a strong team again next year and hope to be in contention for a team trophy at the state meet.

In the Class 4 boys state race, Washington senior Noah Little finished in 50th place in a time of 16:22.4.

Rockhurst senior Wesley Porter won the Class 4 boys race in 15:07.4. Raymore-Peculiar claimed the Class 4 boys team crown.

It was the first year the state cross country meet was held at Gans Creek in Columbia. It was held at Oak Hills Golf Center in Jefferson City for the last several years.

Washington’s girls qualified for the Class 4 state meet with a second-place finish during sectional action at Parkway Central High School on Nov. 2.

Reed finished the sectional race in sixth place in 19:38.34 while Julia Donnelly placed seventh in 19:43.4 and Jessica Donnelly was 10th in 19:50.92. Jacquin was 42nd in 21:03.43, Nix was 59th in 21:34.97, Meyer was 69th in 22:20.15, and Zimmermann was 72nd in 22:26.85.

Little qualified for the state meet by placing 15th in the boys sectional race in 16:50.06.
