Automotive Technology Program |
The Automotive Technology program is a two-year program where students learn auto repair and maintenance skills. It is one of the select few in the country meeting the strict industry standards required for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). Core topics and related skills are taught which prepare students to enter the automotive field as an advanced apprentice, a program of continued education or military service in a chosen mechanical field. The program is open to secondary and post-secondary students.
Advanced standing will be granted by East Central College toward an Associate Degree to those students successfully completing the Building Construction Technology program.
Students are taught personal development, work attitude and leadership skills as a part of the program and their membership in SkillsUSA, the national career and technical student organization.

AYES is a program that allows auto tech students an opportunity for on-the-job experience in dealerships. AYES helps to build strong partnerships between affiliated schools and nearby participating dealerships.
The initial 12 week session takes place in the summer preceding their senior year. Students are matched with dealerships according to the criterion set by the dealership principals, including students' attendance, grade point average, driving record and drug test. The students resume classroom and shop training in the fall. During the second semester, students will intern at their respective dealerships for the last two hours of their class. They have contracted to work an additional two years at their assigned dealership. At the completion of the Auto Tech program, the student will be AYES certified. |
