Superintendent Advisory Teams

Superintendent Advisory Team

Superintendent Advisory Teams advise the Superintendent and District leadership staff on topics related to the strategic goals of the District.

Partnership with parents, staff, and student representatives provides an important voice in the District’s decision-making, planning, and implementation process while continuing to be transparent in the current and future work of the District.

The purpose of these teams is to provide two-way communications between the Superintendent and the schools. The teams will serve in an advisory capacity to the Superintendent and will not have authority to take action on behalf of the school District or make direct recommendations to the Board of Education.

Parent Advisory Team

Purpose:

The Parent Advisory Team to the Superintendent consists of parents and guardian representatives from each of our schools. The team will meet four times per year during the school year to discuss a variety of topics aligned to the goals of the District, share information, and broaden understanding of school-related issues.

Members work together to:

  • Discuss family perspectives on topics impacting their child’s school and the District.
  • Identify common needs and goals among the parents of students enrolled in the School District of Washington.
  • Provide the Superintendent with feedback and insight from each family’s perspective on school processes, policies, and initiatives to ensure that the needs of families are included as decisions are made in the District.
  • Bring to the Superintendent’s attention existing and emerging issues expressed by families at the school they represent.
  • Facilitate communication between and among the families and family organizations from District schools and serve as a forum for sharing innovations and best practices from around the District.

Responsibilities

  • Members will attend and actively participate in all meetings.  It is understood that circumstances occasionally arise where a member will be unable to attend a meeting; however, members who miss more than two meetings in a single year will not be reappointed in the following year.
  • Members will embrace and adhere to the mission, vision, and values of the District.
  • Members will pledge to interact with professionalism, courtesy, and respect to fellow members of the team and District staff.
  • Members work together to be solutions-oriented in discussing a topic.
  • Overall notes from the meeting will be taken, shared with the Board of Education, and posted online, generally within two weeks of the meeting.
