Chris GauzyChris Gauzy, Administrative Assistant at Washington Middle School, has been named the School District of Washington and WINGS Support Staff Employee of the Year.

WINGS recognizes a support staff person from the School District of Washington each year. The recipient receives a check for $1,000 and a plaque.

“It’s quite an honor and a surprise. Thank you to WINGS and everyone with our school district for their support,” Gauzy said. “The middle school is a great place to work. We have an excellent staff.”

Support staff candidates must be a non-certified employee of the School District of Washington. Examples include, but are not limited to, paraprofessionals, technology staff, custodians, buildings and grounds, maintenance, administrative assistants, food service, and nurses.

Anyone had the opportunity to submit a nomination for the School District of Washington and WINGS Support Staff Person of the Year.

Superintendent Dr. Lori VanLeer and a committee reviewed the nominations and submitted a group of finalists to the WINGS Board, who picked the winner.

Gauzy has been with the School District of Washington for 13 years, all as an administrative assistant at Washington Middle School.

“Honestly, I don’t know how our building would remotely function without Chris. She is responsible for so many areas that filter down directly to teachers, staff, and students being able to do their job every day,” Gauzy’s nomination states. “Her biggest personality traits are her ability to be kind and compassionate to every single person who enters our building. She handles pressure and stressful situations in stride and is able to perform under those conditions with efficiency and grace.”

Gauzy and fellow administrative assistant Nancy Shiels have been a fixture at WMS for several years.

“Nancy is awesome,” Gauzy said. “I’ve learned a lot from her over the years.”

Chris and her husband, Duane, have two children, Kelly and Adam, both of whom are Washington High School graduates.
