Teaching Careers Students to Enter Classrooms

Teaching Careers Students Set to Enter Classrooms; Attend Educators Rising State Conference
Posted on 03/12/2021
Teaching Careers StudentsBeginning on Tuesday, March 23, a total of 31 high school seniors will enter classrooms to begin their field experience in the field of education.

Cadets in the Four Rivers Career Center’s Teaching Careers program have been learning about the foundations of education for the entire school year, and even have designed and presented virtual lessons.

Many cadets are signed up to earn college credit in the field of teaching through this class, and 14 of these students are competing in the State Educators Rising virtual conference where they hope to qualify for the National Conference. Their teacher, Jenny Meers, describes this group as the most resilient and creative class yet to be a part of Teaching Careers.

The teaching cadets will be working with students in grades K-8 in 16 different buildings throughout the Washington, Sullivan, St. Clair, Hermann, Warrenton, and Union School Districts. By the end of the school year, cadets will have earned approximately 60-75 hours of field experience, giving them a huge head start compared to their peers.

Facing a teaching shortage, the goal of the program is to allow area school districts to grow their own future teachers. Currently, the School District of Washington has two former Teaching Careers cadets from the program’s pilot year employed by the district.
