Washington High School Baseball Player Gavin Matchell Named KLPW Athlete of the Week
Washington High School baseball player Gavin Matchell is the KLPW Radio Athlete of the Week.
Matchell, a sophomore pitcher and outfielder, has a 2-3 record on the mound with a 1.53 earned-run average. In 32 innings of work, he’s allowed 13 runs, seven earned, on 26 hits with 19 strikeouts and nine walks. He tossed a complete game seven-inning shutout in a 3-0 win over Chaminade on April 30, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out six.
At the plate, Matchell has a .360 batting average (18 hits in 50 at-bats) with one home run, 12 RBIs, eight walks, 10 runs and an on-base percentage of .467.
