WHS GraduationWashington High School’s 120th commencement was held Friday, May 28, at Washington High School’s Scanlan Stadium.

There were 314 graduating seniors in the Class of 2021.

Washington High School Principal Dr. Kelle McCallum welcomed guests to commencement and introduced administrators and Board of Education members on or near the stage.

The WHS band performed “Pomp and Circumstance,” by Elgar Polyhar.

The WHS NJROTC was on hand for the presentation of colors.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Emma Duncan, Vice President of the Class of 2021.

The WHS choir performed the school song and the national anthem.

Assistant Principals Ben Strauser and Mary Kleekamp announced students earning honors and high honors.

Strauser announced the graduating seniors who gave addresses. Those students were:

*Four Rivers Career Center Student Ambassador - Paige Robinson

*WHS 4.0 GPA students – Group 1: Caroline Miller, Aubrie Moreland, Julia Peters and McKenna Jacquin. Group 2: Madi Ridder, Harsh Patel and Max Grimes.

School District of Washington Superintendent Dr. Lori VanLeer gave the superintendent’s message.

John Freitag, President, spoke on behalf of the Board of Education and presented the diplomas.

Durae Zweifel and Patty Thornton, retiring administrative assistants, presented the Class of 2021.

Board of Education members presented diplomas.

Abbie Dewert, Senior Class President, led the seniors in the turning of the tassel.

Jaden Eckelkamp, Secretary

Paige Robinson, Treasurer

Delaney Siefken and Claire Strubberg, Class Representatives.

Senior class sponsors are Cathy Jinkerson and Amanda Clark.

This year’s class song is “I Lived” by One Republic

The class flower is Dahlia.

The class motto is, “On the other side of a storm is the strength that comes from having navigated through it. Raise your sail and begin,” Gregory S. Williams.
