Washington High School Athletes Compete at Track and Field Championships; Mia Reed Earns All-State Honors in Three Sports in Same School Year

WHS State Track and Field MeetCompeting at the MSHSAA Class 5 Track and Field Championships on Thursday, May 27, at Jefferson City High School, Washington High School athletes overcame rainy conditions and a three-hour delay to earn all-state honors in three events.

Five athletes represented WHS in seven events at the state meet.

Mia Reed, Morgan Gratza and Ingrid Figas represented the girls team while Conner Maher and Clyde Hendrix represented the boys team.

The top eight finishers in each event earned all-state honors.

Leading the way was senior Mia Reed, who capped her standout athletic career at WHS with two all-state medals.

Reed finished in third place in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:03.2 and in fifth place in the 800-meter run in 2:17.42.

Reed is the first-ever WHS athlete to earn all-state honors in three sports in the same school year. She accomplished the rare feat in cross country, wrestling and track and field.

Also earning all-state honors was junior Ingrid Figas, who placed eighth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 15.39.

Senior Morgan Gratza competed in two events, the high jump and the javelin. She finished in 12th place in the high jump with a leap of 5-1 and in 14th place in the javelin with a throw of 106-5.

Senior Conner Maher competed in the 400-meter dash, ending in 11th place in a time of 51.17.

Sophomore Clyde Hendrix competed in the javelin, finishing in 12th place with a throw of 144-5.
