Ingrid FigasIngrid Figas has been selected as Washington High School’s recipient of the Daughter's of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizen Award.

The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, created in 1934, is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.

This award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. These students are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree.

The program is open to high school seniors. Only one student per year can be recognized as the school’s recipient.

Figas was named the recipient after the Washington High School faculty voted on the student that best met the nomination criteria:

*Male or female in 12th grade

*Dependable

*Excellent service to school and community

*Strong leadership qualities

*Demonstrated patriotism and an interest in making our country a better place.

Once a student is chosen as the DAR Good Citizen, they are invited to participate in the scholarship portion of the program. This consists of a personal statement and an essay.

Ingrid, who holds a 4.0 grade-point average, is the daughter of Mitch and Molly Figas. She’s a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, Leadership, and the WHS volleyball, basketball and track and field teams. She earned all-state honors in the hurdles as a junior during last year’s track season.

Following graduation, Ingrid plans to attend a four-year college, but hasn’t decided where she will go or her field of study.
