Varsity Lady Jays Compete at Borgia Basketball Tournament

WHS Girls BasketballThe Washington High School varsity girls basketball team tipped off action at the Borgia Tournament on Monday, January 31, against the host school.

The fifth-seeded Lady Jays, who have been short-handed over the last couple of weeks due to injuries, fell short by the score of 48-31.

Ingrid Figas and Kendall Nix both scored six points for Washington. Cierra Murrell finished with five points.

Elizabeth Reed and Payton Voss both added four points.

Taylor Brown, Emily McCormack and Alayna Royal each had two points. Also playing were Abi Waters, Emma Briggs, Kelsey Brueggemann and Kelsee Crego.

The Lady Jays have been playing without Olivia Reed and Gabby Lindemann, both of whom are out with injuries.

Washington, coached by Doug Light, is scheduled to play eighth-seeded Soldan in the consolation semifinals when the weather clears and the tournament continues.
