Washington High School senior Karlene Hoch is the 2022-23 VFW Post 2661 (Washington) Voice of Democracy honoree.
The Voice of Democracy audio-essay program was established in 1947. This year's theme is "Why Is the Veteran Important?" Hoch submitted her written essay and audio recording of it to the local VFW Chapter in October and was notified in December that she was the chapter winner. She received a certificate and $175 for her efforts.
Hoch's future plans include attending Webster University in the fall of 2023, where she has been accepted to study at the Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts.
Karlene is the daughter of Brett Hoch and Michelle Turner.
