Washington High School's Gavin Holtmeyer Places Second at State Wrestling

Gavin Holtmeyer State WrestlingWashington High School junior Gavin Holtmeyer represented the Blue Jays at the MSHSAA Class 4 Wrestling Championships at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence on Saturday, March 13.

Holtmeyer (36-5) secured his second career state medal with a second-place finish in the 285-pound weight class.

Holtmeyer, a two-time state medalist and three-time state qualifier, won both the Class 4 District 2 title and the Class 4 Sectional 1 crown at 285 pounds heading into the state meet.

Competing at the state meet, Holtmeyer reached the state finals at 285 pounds, where he fell short in a 4-3 decision to Ozark senior Hunter Tennison (51-0).

All three of Holtmeyer’s matches at the state meet were decided by one point.

After receiving a first round bye, Holtmeyer claimed a 2-1 victory over Blue Springs’ Brock Sullivan in the quarterfinals. He then defeated Raymore-Peculiar’s Tyson King in the semifinals, 1-0.
