South Point Patriot DaySouth Point Elementary School observed the 9/11 Anniversary on Patriot Day, Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Remembering the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, South Point staff and students circled around the flag pole in front of the building. They were joined by area emergency responders, including members of the Washington Police and Fire Departments, Washington Ambulance, Union Ambulance, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, Lake St. Louis Fire Department, Marthasville EMS, ARCH Air Methods Corporation, retired and current military veterans, and School District of Washington officials.

The group recited the Pledge of Allegiance together and then sang the U.S. National Anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner.” A moment of silence was then held.

Following the ceremony outside, some of the emergency responders, veterans and other guests visited classrooms at South Point Elementary and spoke to the students about the 9/11 Anniversary and also read the younger grades a children’s book.

Students also had the opportunity for a first-hand look at the ARCH Air Methods Corporation helicopter on hand, as well as a Washington Fire Department truck and a Washington ambulance.
