Social Emotional Learning Advisory Team

Social Emotional Learning Advisory Team

The Parent Social Emotional Learning Advisory Team is being created to advise the Director of Social Emotional Learning and District leadership staff on topics related to the strategic goals of the District.  Partnership with parents and guardians provides an important voice in the District’s decision-making, planning, and implementation process while continuing to be transparent in the current and future work of the District.

The purpose of these teams is to provide two-way communications and build transparency between the Social Emotional Learning Director and the schools.  The teams will serve in an advisory capacity to the Director of Social Emotional Learning and will not have authority to take action on behalf of the school District or make direct recommendations to the Board of Education.

Purpose:

The Social Emotional Learning Advisory Team to the Director of Social Emotional Learning consists of parents and guardian representatives from each of our schools.  The team will meet one time during Spring 2022 and three times a year during the 2022-2023 school year to discuss a variety of topics aligned to the goals of the District, share information, and broaden understanding of school-related issues.

Members work together to:

*Identify common needs and goals among the parents of students enrolled in the School District of Washington.

*Provide the Director of Social Emotional Learning with feedback and insight from each family’s perspective on school processes, policies, and initiatives related to Social Emotional Learning  to ensure that the needs of families are included as decisions are made in the District.

*Facilitate communication between and among the families and family organizations from District schools and serve as a forum for sharing innovations and best practices from around the District.

Responsibilities:

*Members will attend and actively participate in all meetings. It is understood that circumstances occasionally arise where a member will be unable to attend a meeting; however, members who miss more than two meetings in a single year will not be reappointed in the following year.

*Members will embrace and adhere to the mission, vision, and values of the District.

*Members will pledge to interact with professionalism, courtesy, and respect to fellow members of the team and District staff.

*Members work together to be solutions-oriented in discussing a topic.

*If more than one parent is applying from a school site, there will be a randomized selection process to determine the representative from that school. Please note the middle school and high school will have two representatives due to the size of the programming.

*If a parent on the team elects to remove their student from the instruction provided by the District, their position on the panel will be forfeited and an alternate parent will be selected.
