SDOW LogoThe School District of Washington’s Board of Education will meet Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the district office at 7 p.m.

Among the items on the agenda are:

Student Representative to the Board of Education: Tristan Zeh, a junior at WHS, was selected to serve as the Student Advisor for 2019 and will take the Oath of Student Representative. Tristan is heavily involved in student activities as a member of the Track/Cross Country teams, Key Club, Renaissance, National Honor Society, and was part of the Missouri Scholars Academy at Mizzou. The Board of Education would like to thank Sophie Koritz for serving as Student Representative during 2018. Her insights and contributions to discussions were very much appreciated.

Board of Education Recognition: School board members across the state of Missouri will be recognized during the week of February 10-16, 2019 for their dedicated service to local school districts. We would like to take the opportunity at this board meeting to thank each one of our board members for their tireless work on behalf of the students and staff of the School District of Washington.

School Board Filing: School board filing for the April 2, 2019 election closed on January 15, 2019. Two board candidates filed for the two positions being vacated by Dan Contarini and Trish Mitchell. Our two candidates are Jason Oesterly and Matthew Wilson. Though technically no election is required when the number of candidates equals the number of open positions, due to a recent change in state law, it will be necessary for their names to be listed on the April 2, 2019 ballot. Jason and Matt will be officially sworn in at our Reorganization meeting on April 16, 2019. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Dan and Trish for the years they devoted to serving on the Board.

Building Level Reports – Clearview and Labadie: Dr. Matt Busekrus, Clearview Elementary Principal, and Jennifer Pecka, Labadie Elementary Principal, will share building goals and student initiatives with the Board of Education.

Strategic Plan Document: The Strategic Plan document was provided last month for a first reading. It was also available on the District website for public comment through January 7, 2019. It has also been going through an administrative review, and has been reviewed by the Strategic Planning Team.

Achievement Report: Assistant Superintendent will Dr. Judy Straatmann provide the Achievement Report.

Student Information System Recommendation: We are currently still in the process of determining the best student information system for the District's needs. Based on observations, along with the previous product demonstrations, staff feedback, and reference checks, the Technology Department will provide documents with our recommendation.

Enhancement Grant: The Enhancement Grant for the 2019-20 school year must be submitted to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education by February 28, 2019.
