Elementary Students Participate in Battle of the Books

Battle of the BooksThe Fourth Annual Battle of the Books took place at Washington Middle School on Thursday, April 4.

Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program for grades 4-6 in which teams are encouraged to read all 12 Missouri Mark Twain award nominees and then participate in the battle to see which team knows the most about the books.

All of the questions in the competition began with the words “In which book” and the correct answer always was the title.

There were five rounds consisting of 10 questions in each round.

Students in grades 4-6 from all seven elementary buildings in the School District of Washington participated.

A total of 34 teams and 150 students participated.

The first-place team was Book Biters (Cooper Guss, Cole Straatmann, Kayla Rice, Kinsley Guss and Lily Thornton) from Clearview Elementary.

There was a three-way tie for second place.

The second-place team was Title Waves (Vivian Grant, Payton Toth, Jaycee Bowers, Sophie Kleekamp and Hazel Hedrick) from Campbellton Elementary.

The second-place team was Cat Attack Content (Mya Spaunhorst, Avaya Kitchen, Rylee Kinney, Steve Broadbent and Jack Henderson) from South Point Elementary.

The second-place team was Girl Power Strikes Back (Olivia Jensen, Ava Crow and Andrea Martin) from Clearview Elementary.

The best decorated table was Seusefied from Augusta Elementary.
