WMS Festival of Trees WinnerSchool District of Washington buildings and groups participated in the annual Community Festival of Trees, which recently concluded at St. Peters United Church of Christ in Washington.

Over 80 trees were decorated by various organizations. Schools, churches, businesses and community groups in the area had trees represented.

A donation of one non-perishable food item under the tree was one vote for that organization’s tree.

Overall, there were over 15,000 food items donated to the Festival of Trees.

For the second consecutive year, Washington Middle School was the winner, donating 4,600 food items. Student council members organized the drive at WMS. Items were donated by the entire student body and staff.

Washington High School finished in second place. Also participating in the Festival of Trees from the School District of Washington were WINGS Educational Foundation, Marthasville Elementary, Clearview Elementary and South Point Elementary.

Each food item will help feed a community member. All food collected will be distributed between three food pantries.
