SDOW LogoThe School District of Washington’s Board of Education will meet Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place at the LPN Room at Four Rivers Career Center.

Among the items on the agenda are:

*EdPlus Presentation: Dr. Paul Ziegler, Executive Director at EducationPlus, will be at the meeting to share a presentation about the many services provided by EdPlus.

*Student Representative Report: Sophie Koritz, Student Representative, will share a report with the Board of Education.

*MSBA Conference Update: The MSBA Fall Conference was held September 27-30, 2018 at Tan-Tar-A. Several board members attended, along with Superintendent Dr. Lori VanLeer. Our District was asked to present at a breakout session in connection with our Outstanding Board of Education award on Teaching, Learning, and Assessment. The presentation was led by John Freitag and Dan Contarini, and Kevin Blackburn assisted with the question and answer session.

*Building Level Report – Four Rivers Career Center and Washington West Elementary: Andy Robinson, Director of Four Rivers Career Center, and Kim Hunt, Principal at Washington West Elementary, will share information with the Board of Education on the BUILD Academy and the Health Science Academy.

A Board walk-through is scheduled for November 2, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at Four Rivers Career Center, followed by a walk-through at the Health Science Academy at Mercy Hospital at 10:15 a.m.

*Engineering Reports - South Point Elementary: A site review was performed at South Point Elementary by our District's architectural firm to analyze cracking walls that appeared to be getting worse. The field report provided to the District was concerning enough to discontinue use of the gymnasium due to its current condition and lack of structural integrity. After receiving this report, Dr. VanLeer contacted Missouri United School Insurance Council (MUSIC) to obtain a second opinion. Their report indicates a similar opinion. The architect firm and MUSIC are establishing recommendations for remediation and cost estimates associated with their concerns.

*Strategic Planning Update: The progress of the strategic planning process will be updated.

*Curriculum: Curriculum revision is an on-going process, and documents will be provided to the Board containing samples of completed curriculum revisions.
