Delo Competition Third PlaceDan Brinkmann, Four Rivers Career Center Automotive Technology instructor, recently was named the 2018 Delo Tractor Restoration Competition Advisor of the Year.

Brinkmann was nominated by his students for the award.

The following is an excerpt from the Four Rivers Career Center Night Shift team that placed third in the restoration competition:

"(Mr. Brinkmann) is very humble and understanding. That’s what makes him one amazing teacher. Most importantly, he is someone who all of us students want to strive to be like. He makes a commitment to us kids by opening those bay doors after school, and we make a commitment to him by striving to be the best we can be. 'Put your pride into it, is it something that you are proud to say you worked on.' With him, you've got yourself more than a teacher, you have yourself a friend, someone you can count on in class and out of class."

Students from the Four Rivers Career Center Night Shift class placed third in the Delo Tractor Restoration Competition held in Indianapolis.

The national contest is scored by the restoration of the tractor, proper safety procedures, documentation of the process, oral presentation, and a 20-minute question and answer session by a panel of restoration expert judges.

The FRCC Night Shift students restored a John Deere Model A from 1949. The students who participated in the competition were Logan Williams, Trevor Seals, Alexis Musket, Allen Shepard, Chris Nowak and David Ley.

The students that participate in the contest can nominate their instructor/mentor/parent that helped them along the restoration process. They wrote an essay about why they are making the nomination. Tthe essay, along with the presentation (knowledge learned), are scored and the award is presented to the winner. The top three teams were recognized.

“I didn't restore anything,” Brinkmann said. “I just motivated the students to put pride in their work.”
