WHS State TrackCompeting at the MSHSAA Class 4 Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 27 and 28, at Jefferson City High School, Washington High School athletes earned all-state honors in two events.

Eight athletes represented WHS in seven events at the state meet.

Ingrid Figas represented the girls team while Clyde Hendrix, Travis Bieg, Tommy Stahl, Ethan Bliss, Logan Luttrell, Kellen Schiermeier and Micah Gargrave represented the boys team.

The top eight finishers in each event earned all-state honors.

Ingrid Figas, a senior, capped her athletic career at WHS with her second state medal in the girls 100-meter hurdles, placing seventh in a time of 15.64.

“I feel good about how it went. I was pretty confident on where I would place. All of these girls are so fast, but I was confident about where I could end up,” Figas said. “It’s pretty cool to be a two-time state medalist. I’ve only been running hurdles since my freshman year and with COVID my sophomore year, I didn’t run that year. I’ve only been doing it for three years. There was a lot of practice involved. I couldn’t have done this without all of the practice. It’s been fun going to state the last two years after dedicating so much time to it. It’s crazy that it’s over, but it’s been awesome.”

Also earning all-state honors was junior Clyde Hendrix, who placed eighth in the boys javelin with a throw of 47.11 meters (154-7 feet).

“My goal was to reach the 53 to 55 (meters) area, so 47-11 wasn’t quite where I wanted to be. It was good to come out here and compete against good competition,” Hendrix said. “It feels good to get a state medal. I know next year I’ll be more relaxed and I can really go after it. My goal for next year is to finish at the top. I always want to be No. 1 when I’m competing.”

Competing in the boys pole vault, senior Travis Bieg tied for ninth place by clearing 3.66 meters (12 feet).

Tommy Stahl, a junior, finished ninth in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 41.51.

In the 3,200-meter relay, seniors Ethan Bliss and Micah Gargrave, junior Kellen Schiermeier and sophomore Logan Luttrell placed 11th in a time of 8:30.18.
