Taylor BrownWashington High School softball player Taylor Brown is the Washington Missourian Athlete of the Week, sponsored by First State Community Bank.

Brown, a junior pitcher and first baseman, owns a pitching record of 20-1 with a 1.12 earned-run average heading into the MSHSAA Class 4 Championships Thursday and Friday, October 27 and 28 in Springfield.

In 119 innings of work, Brown has allowed 29 runs, 19 earned, on 41 hits with 50 walks and 243 strikeouts. At the plate, Brown has a batting average of .486 with nine home runs, 60 RBIs, an on-base percentage of .537 and a slugging percentage of .883.

Brown was the winning pitcher, tossing all seven innings, and also belted a home run in Washington’s 7-2 win over Cape Notre Dame in the Class 4 quarterfinals on Wednesday, October 19.

The Blue Jays will be going for their second straight Class 4 state championship in Springfield. They take on Helias in the semifinals on Thursday, October 27, at noon. The winner advances to the state championship game against either Warrenton or Kearney on Friday, October 28, at 10 a.m.
