WHS Girls Swimmers Compete at Home Meet, GAC Championships

WHS Girls SwimmingThe Washington High School girls swim team competed in a meet against Borgia at the Four Rivers YMCA on Friday, February 3.

The Lady Jays fell short in a competitive meet against Borgia, 97-73.

Washington’s top finishers were the 200 medley relay team of Zoey Ziegler, Ava Kauffeld, Maddy Henderson and Ellie Williams, Kauffeld in the 200 IM, and Henderson in the 500 Free.

Time improvements were turned in by:

Dayton Grieshheimer in the 200 Free in a season’s best time of 2:26.41.

Darcy Koch in the 200 Free with a new personal record time of 2:44.84.

Mia Mahon in the 200 IM with a new personal record time of 2:40.87.

Zoey Ziegler in the 100 Free with a new personal record time of 57.03.

Rye Gammon in the 100 Free with a new personal record time of 1:30.97.

Maddy Henderson in the 500 Free with a season’s best time of 6:26.45.

GAC Championships

On Thursday, February 3, Washington finished in second place as a team at the GAC Championships.

The Lady Jays set five new school records in the meet.

The 400 Free Relay team of Zoey Ziegler, Maddy Henderson, Ellie Williams and Ava Kauffeld claimed a first-place finish, beating their prelims time by over four seconds, with a school record time of 3:56.24.

The 200 Free Relay team of Zoey Ziegler, Maddy Henderson, Ellie Williams and Ava Kauffeld placed first in a school record time of 1:47.45.

Kauffeld was first in the 100 Breast in a school record time of 1:07.53 and first in the 200 IM in a school record time of 2:15.31.

Zoey Ziegler placed first in the 100 Back in a school record time of 1:04.47. Darcy Koch placed 14th in 1:29.57. Ziegler also was second in the 100 Free in 57.77.

Ellie Williams placed third in the 50 Free with a new PR time of 26.89, which was good enough for her first ever state consideration time. She also was third in the 100 Free with a new PR time of 58.57. That also was a state consideration time.

Maddy Henderson placed third in the 100 Fly in a time of 1:07.67, good enough for her first ever state consideration time.

Mia Mahon finished third in the 200 Free in 2:18.92. Cierra Loepker was 10th in 2:44.68. Mahon also placed sixth in the 100 Fly in 1:14.

Maddy Henderson finished fourth in the 50 Free in 27.56. Lexi Perriman was 12th in 30.03.

Dayton Grieshheimer finished third in the 500 Free in 6:13.49 and fourth in the 200 IM in 2:38.38.

The 200 Medley Relay team of Dayton Grieshheimer, Lexi Perriman, Mia Mahon and Darcy Koch placed fourth in 2:15.11.

Lexi Perriman placed fifth in the 100 Breast in 1:27.57. Emma Braun was eighth in 1:31.53. Cierra Loepker was 11th in 1:34.19.

Darcy Koch was ninth in the 100 Free in 1:11.36. Emma Braun finished 13th in 1:16.44.

The Lady Jays are coached by Tracy Moreland, Sam Loepker and Bob Sander.
