The Washington High School Jaywalkers Dance Team recently competed in both State and National competitions.
The Jaywalkers competed at the Missouri Dance Team Association (MDTA) 2023 State Championships on Saturday, February 25, at the Hy-Vee Arena in Kansas City.
Coached by Jo Phinney and Tabitha Holtmeyer, the Jaywalkers placed first in the Kick category at the state championships.
“The team worked hard this year and had awesome performances in Kick and Pom,” Phinney said.
The Jaywalkers traveled to Orlando, Florida, for Dance Team Union Nationals, which took place February 10-12. The team placed 11th in Kick and 12th in team performance.
“It definitely was a chance for the team to grow and compete with different teams from across the country,” Phinney said.
Team members are Ava Hackman (captain), Gabrielle Ziglin (captain), Isabella Fitzgerald (captain), Ashley Frick, Claire Schmiedeskamp, Kiley Dodson, Addyson Meyer, Camille Junkin, Danielle Newhouse, Cecilia Maurer, Jillian Witt and Emma Page.
