Warren Branch, custodian at Campbellton Elementary, is the October recipient of the Blue Jay Pride Award.
The Blue Jay Pride Award was introduced to recognize and showcase quality School District of Washington staff and the focus on the District’s core beliefs. Through peer nomination, individuals are able to acknowledge exceptional staff who positively impact the schools, district and community.
The individual who is recognized each month will be presented with a traveling plaque and a gift bag.
Branch’s nomination forms stated the following:
“Warren goes above and beyond every single second of every single day. To have a custodian like him is a true hidden treasure. He opens up our school every day and greets each and every student by name at the door in the morning. He remembers when they were absent the day before and will ask them if they feel better or will say he is glad they are back. He has even helped me learn the student’s names by watching him each morning. He helps the students open things at lunch. He lets them know when to clean off their face after their meal. He truly loves our students and does this job because of them.
“During our back to school assembly, a student was struggling to stay seated and focused, so Warren just sat on the floor next to him to help him get through the assembly and support that student. To find someone who cares about our students so much and is so willing to be that positive role model for them is beyond valuable. He takes as much pride in how Campbellton looks as he does in the relationships he makes with our students. In the 100-degree heat, he was watering our flower beds so they wouldn't die. This summer when setting up my office, my trash was thrown away before I even had a chance. Warren is always willing to pitch in and is often helping out before you even have to ask.”
Branch was presented the Blue Jay Pride Award traveling plaque by SDOW Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Kephart. He also received a gift bag from the Bank of Washington. Representing the Bank of Washington were Melissa Buel, Danny Tobben, Stacey Vedder and Sara Hoerstkamp.
