Stacey Secor has been named the new principal at South Point Elementary, effective July 1, 2024. She will replace Aimee Harty, who is retiring following the school year.
Secor has spent the last 13 years at Washington Middle School. She was the coordinator for the No Excuses Program for eight years and most recently, served as assistant principal for the last five years.
“I am very excited about the new role,” Secor said. “I feel extremely blessed and motivated to lead such an awesome team at South Point Elementary. It's a wonderful opportunity to continue the work of the district's mission and goals.”
As the No Excuses Coordinator at WMS, Secor collaborated with teachers, counselors and outside agencies to offer alternative learning strategies and opportunities for struggling students. She then moved into the role of assistant principal at WMS, where’s she’s been alongside Principal Laura Bruckerhoff for the last five years.
“Throughout her time at Washington Middle School, Mrs. Secor has focused on building strong relationships with teachers, students, and parents to support the learning process,” said School District of Washington Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Kephart. “We look forward to her instructional leadership and rich focus on the school community as the new principal at South Point Elementary.”
Prior to working for the School District of Washington, Secor taught at East Central College. She brings with her over 20 years of experience as an educator.
Secor earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She has a Master’s Degree with a focus on the At-Risk Student from the University of Phoenix, Phoenix Ariz. She earned her Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Secor is looking forward to leading the team at South Point Elementary. She’ll be joining another former Washington Middle School staff member in Stefanie Virgen, who is currently in her first year as Assistant Principal at South Point.
“I'm looking forward to having more time with students and their families. The opportunity to be a part of a child's journey from Kindergarten through sixth grade is exciting. So many impactful and exciting things are possible for the students,” Secor said. “I plan to support the growth and hard work that exemplifies South Point Elementary.”
Secor and her husband, Scott, live in the Washington School District. They have two daughters, Sebbie (22 years old) and Stella (19 years old).
Aimee Harty to Retire
Harty, who will retire following the current 2023-24 school year, has been the Principal at South Point Elementary for 10 years. She’s been with the SDOW for 11 years after spending her first year as Assistant Principal at Washington West Elementary. She’s been in education for 29 years overall between the Meramec Valley R-III School District and the School District of Washington.
“I’ve been honored to serve as principal at South Point Elementary. From day one, the families have been so supportive of the work we do. The passion and commitment of the staff is unmatched. We’ve grown and changed a lot over the last 10 years and I’m so proud of everyone,” Harty said.
“If you ask me the very best part of the work, I would tell you seeing the ‘why’ every single day. Student smiles, hugs and their growth over the years have made every day incredible,” Harty added. “I will miss everyone, but I am looking very forward to my next chapter. It’s been an incredible journey. I’ve been so blessed to work alongside amazing people.”
