Pink Out CampaignThe AP Government and Politics classes at Washington High School sponsored a Pink Out Night at the varsity football game on Friday, Oct. 11.

It started as an idea for a required community service project for the class. Students had to organize and take part in some sort of community service throughout the year. They decided to sell pink shirts for a home football game in October, and donate the money raised to the Mercy Cancer Center.

From that point forward, the students sold 830 shirts and also raised approximately $500 from concessions at the game, many of which came from cotton candy sales.

Overall, a total of $5,189 was donated to Mercy. Accepting the check on behalf of Mercy were Cindy Schiermeier and Kim Davis.

Presenting the check were Washington High School students Aubrie Moreland, Ariel Pettis, Macie Steffens, Molly Schaedler, Ella Scott, Abigail Raeker, Chandler Donovan, Anna McFarland, Samantha Pyatt, Cole Langford, Cole Nahlik, Ben Tobben, Landon Kleekamp, Kyle Meyer, Trent Pabst, Douglas Holcomb and Kaleb Burr.

WHS Social Studies teacher Ben Strauser supervised the Pink Out campaign.
