State Cross CountryCompeting at the MSHSAA Cross Country Championships at Gans Creek in Columbia on Saturday, Nov. 7, Washington High School’s Mia Reed earned all-state honors in Class 5 by placing in the top 25 of the girls individual standings.

Reed, a senior, captured her third career state medal in four trips to the state meet by finishing in 12th place in a time of 18:53.6.

Reed also placed 12th in last year’s Class 4 race in almost the exact same time, 18:53.4.

“Compared to last year, I was .2 seconds slower, but I felt I ran good,” Reed said after receiving her medal. “I ran smart and I ran strong, and that’s exactly what I wanted to do."

The Lady Jays qualified for the state meet as a team by placing second in their district meet on Saturday, October 31, at Big Driver. They finished 14th in the Class 5 team standings with a score of 319. Lafayette won the Class 5 girls crown with a team score of 80.

Washington sophomore Julia Donnelly finished in 57th place in 20:00.1.

Also running for the Lady Jays were senior Jessica Donnelly (130th in 21:02.3), freshman Mia Mahon (147th in 21:36.4), senior Lilly Nix (149th in 21:45.5), senior McKenna Jacquin (159th in 22.32.3) and sophomore Leah Wheeler (162nd in 22:36.7).

Ally Kruger of Wentzville Liberty won the Class 5 girls race in a time of 18:03.1.

“I’m so thankful for the four years I’ve had with all of the girls. I’m really happy we brought our team back here to the state meet,” Reed said. “I knew it was going to be tough, but we pushed through and ran great as a team. I’m so excited we made it here. I’m going to miss this.”
