The Emerson Excellence in Teaching Awards program annually recognizes more than 100 educators in the St. Louis metropolitan area – from kindergarten teachers to college professors – who are examples of excellence in their field.

Recipients are selected by the chief administrators of their school districts or educational institutions. The employing educational institution must be located in the St. Louis metropolitan area, which is defined to include: (in Missouri) Franklin County, Jefferson County, St. Charles County, St. Louis City, St. Louis County; and (in Illinois) Jersey County, Madison County, Monroe County, and St. Clair County.

Brinkmann was recognized at the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 11, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in St. Louis.

“I felt very honored to sit among many great educators in our St. Louis area at the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Ceremony on Sunday evening,” Brinkmann said. “Every year in education is different and I feel I am always learning. Teaching is in itself a rewarding profession as we get to see young learners grow and achieve new things. I feel blessed to work with many great educators and enjoy being in the classroom each and every day.”

Brinkmann has been in education for 28 years. She’s also has taught on the elementary level at the Orchard Farm and Francis Howell school districts. She’s been with the School District of Washington for 19 years, all at Augusta Elementary.

“Teaching Kindergarten is a very difficult job, but Amy Brinkmann excels at it. She has the perfect personality and teaching style to work with our youngest students,” said Augusta Elementary Principal Dr. Mary Robertson. “Amy is an anchor for our building and works tirelessly to make it a better place. My words fall short of truly expressing her many contributions and level of dedication to the field of education. The world needs more teachers like Mrs. Brinkmann. I could not think anyone more deserving to receive this award.”

The last three Emerson Electric Excellence in Teaching Award recipients from the School District of Washington have been Washington Middle School’s Stefanie Virgen in 2017, Clearview’s Becky Zanin in 2016, and Campbellton’s Angie Hopkins in 2015.
