Teaching Careers Ed NightStudents in the CAPS Teaching Careers Program at the Four Rivers Career Center hosted Ed Night on Tuesday, April 25, in the Confluence room at FRCC.

The Teaching Careers program is a senior-only program for students looking to explore education as a profession.

The Teaching Careers class, taught by Jenny Meers, is eight years old. Since then, the School District of Washington has gone on to hire five full-time teachers and a number of substitutes who were graduates of the program.

There also are several graduates from the program working in area school districts such as Union, Warrenton and Hermann.

This year, 25 seniors are graduating from the Teaching Careers program. Three students, Avery Marquart, Hanna Roady and Hannah Johnson, have passed their para certification.

At Ed Night, the program celebrated this year's graduates with a future teacher signing, a showcase of course projects, and an awards ceremony.

This year, Teaching Careers also had their first Registered Youth Apprentice, Avery Marquart, who works with the childcare program at St. Gertrude’s Catholic Grade School.

This summer, Teaching Careers will host their first Teaching Careers Summer Summit. All program graduates since 2016 are invited to return for a professional development and networking event, which will include human resource staff from area school districts, school personnel guest speakers, and networking activities.
