Washington High School Hosts Joe Schneider Memorial Girls Wrestling Tournament
Washington High School hosted the Joe Schneider Memorial Girls Wrestling Tournament on Friday, January 24.
Washington crowned two individual champions and finished in fourth place in the team standings with 121 points.
Lafayette claimed the team title with 224.5 points. Eureka finished second with 145 points followed by Francis Howell North (126.5), Washington (121), Rockwood Summit (114), Pattonville (100), Ritenour (65.5), Fox (60), Troy (45.5), Highland (44), Oakville (30), Hazelwood Central (28), Borgia (4) and Orchard Farm (0).
Washington’s Bri James and Maggie Ortmann both won individual titles and reached milestones during the tournament.
James (31-8 on the season) captured the 140-pound title with a 3-0 record, defeating Eureka’s Lucy Summer by technical fall in the finals. In her first contested match of the tournament, James claimed her 100th career victory with a pin over Oakville’s Mya Pagano in 1:09.
Ortmann (32-2 on the season) cruised to the 155-pound title with a 3-0 record, pinning Eureka’s Mya Willis in 3:19 in the finals, which also was her 150th career victory.
Reaching the finals and placing second at 110 pounds was Lindsey Mueller, who posted a 2-1 tournament record, improving to 27-13 on the season.
Lily Buchanan notched a third-place finish at 130 pounds with a 2-1 tournament record, improving to 15-16 on the season.
Gracie Shaw placed fourth at 105 pounds with a 3-2 tournament record, improving to 23-15 on the season.
Aubrey Pecka finished fourth at 115 pounds with a 2-2 tournament record, improving to 5-5 on the season.
Gracey Garner placed fourth at 120 pounds with a 2-2 tournament record, improving to 17-19 on the season.
Also competing for Washington in the tournament were Maycee Rion (100 pounds), Jane Lyons (100 pounds), Lillie Houston (105 pounds), Clara Frame (115 pounds), Karoline Norwood (115 pounds), Abbie Weber (115 pounds), Jordyn Keiser (125 pounds), Addi Kriete (135 pounds), Kris Blankenship (145 pounds), Ireland Trevino (170 pounds) and Gwen Hillermann (235 pounds).
