Nurses

The School District of Washington Nurses are a group of nurses who provide care in many ways to the students in their buildings. They provide essential care for students who become sick or injured, manage chronic health conditions, administer medications, and help ensure students are able to stay in school and participate in learning as fully as possible while keeping the whole school community in mind.

Beyond the medical responsibilities, school nurses are often a comforting and trusted presence for students who may be overwhelmed, anxious, or in need of someone who will listen with compassion and patience. By caring for both physical and emotional well-being of students, school nurses are an essential part of the school community and make a lasting difference in the lives of the children they serve.

Mission

The mission of the Health Services Department is to protect the health of students by providing a continuing program of health education and service, and a healthful school environment. The primary responsibility for the health of a student rests with the parents. The school health program is to assist parents and students in carrying out that responsibility.

The goal of the Health Services Department is to provide a professional health service, including registered and practical nurses, to assist our students in developing their potential, both physically and academically. This service helps students and staff maintain their individual optimum health status, thereby enabling them to take advantage of their educational
opportunities.
