WINGS Early Bird Grant Recipients
The WINGS Educational Foundation awarded a record $8,832 in fall Early Bird Grants to classrooms in the School District of Washington.
The Jackie Krafft Early Bird grants, named after longtime district kindergarten teacher Jackie Krafft, were awarded for a maximum of $500. An additional $500 Larry Tobben Fine Arts Grant was given to Sarah Bayless for her art education classroom at Marthasville Elementary School, in memory of Larry Tobben, a longtime district art teacher. Both were also longtime WINGS board members.
Recipients of this year’s Jackie Krafft Early Bird grants are classrooms in the following schools:
South Point Elementary: Jamie Banze, Amy O’Hanlon, Julia McDonald, Hannah Evert, Stephanie Knight, Stefanie Virgin and Kim Johnson.
Marthasville Elementary: Kate Winkelmeier
Washington West Elementary: Abigail Hopen and Samantha Van Weelden.
Campbellton Elementary: Keith Thacker.
Early Learning Center: Melissa Kulp, Laura Bailey, Julie Thornton, Lorna Schulz and Sara Goggin.
Washington High School: Emily Kassebaum, Hannah Smith, Lori Hotra, Allison Chaney and Jessica Fitzgerald.
Four Rivers Career Center: Stacey Siefken.

Since it’s founding in 1992, the WINGS Educational Foundation has given nearly $900,000 in classroom grants - from musical instruments and book vending machines to sound systems and everything in between.
WINGS has awarded $120,000 in scholarships to support students to pursue college and vocations and has invested $1.7 million in an endowment fund to ensure the mission of supporting the School District of Washington continues. Including its latest Hall of Honor induction on September 27, the Foundation has recognized 51 outstanding educators, alumni and community leaders.
Funds for WINGS Classroom Grants and other programs are raised through events everyone can support, including the WINGS Trivia Night on Friday, November 7, and the WINGS BBQ Picnic the first Friday each May.
Teachers in the district have an opportunity to submit applications this April for WINGS Spring Classroom Grants up to $5,000. An application can be found by clicking on this link and on the district’s website.
