Fifth-Grade Students Explore Washington History With Visit to Historical Society Museum

School District of Washington fifth-grade students experienced Washington, Missouri, history like never before through an engaging learning program at the Washington Historical Society Museum. The educational experience features six interactive stations designed to connect students with the region's diverse historical narratives.
The program includes stations focused on World War II, the Civil War, the Osage Nation, local industry, fire department history, and 19th-century food traditions.
Cadets from the SDOW Teaching Careers Program and community volunteers guide students through each station, bringing local history to life through demonstrations, artifacts, games, and interactive activities.
"This program connects students directly to the stories and people who shaped our community," said a museum representative. "By rotating through each station, fifth graders gain an understanding of Washington's past while engaging with local historians and volunteers."
