Students in Kristen Perriman’s Child Development class at Washington High School recently had the opportunity to learn through personal stories connected to topics they are studying in class.

Child Development student Avery Sullenger presented a project on cleft lip and palate. As part of her presentation, she invited her younger brother, Renegade Langston, to speak to the class about his experiences and the strength he has shown throughout his journey with cleft lip and palate.

The class also welcomed Jamie Gallo and her three children, Evelyn, Savario and Sylvio. They shared Evelyn’s journey with Down syndrome and gave students an opportunity to learn more through their family’s personal experiences.

The visits provided students with meaningful, real-life connections to the topics being discussed in Perriman’s Child Development class.
