Keshan VogtKeshan Vogt has been hired by the School District of Washington as the Principal of Campbellton Elementary, effective July 1, 2023. The Board of Education recently approved the hiring.

Vogt will replace Jennifer Meyer, who recently was named the Director of the Early Learning Center.

Vogt currently is a fifth-grade teacher at Washington West Elementary. She has held that position for all 10 years she’s been with the School District of Washington. She also did her student teaching in the District at Augusta Elementary. She’s also worked in the district as a summer school teacher, professional development facilitator, student council advisor and math and reading tutor.

“I’m very excited about this opportunity and to work in the community that I live in at the school that my boys were going to attend regardless of where I was,” Vogt said. “This is my dream job. Campbellton Elementary is five minutes from my house. We moved out to the Campbellton area four years ago and it’s just a different feeling. It’s such a great community.”

During her 10 years in the District, Vogt has been heavily involved in various committees and staff projects, including leadership cohort, strategic planning team, professional development presenter, superintendent staff advisory team, literacy leadership team, curriculum writing teams, standards based grading committee, positive behavior supports committee, assessment audit committee, building improvement plan committee, and Title 1 funds committee.

“I’ve been thinking about being an administrator since I got into education,” Vogt said. “I’ve been on the committees with the strategic planning and advisory board. I’ve written curriculum and re-written curriculum when the standards changed. I’m just ready to support students and staff. I love what we do and want to make sure everybody else does too.”

“As a resident of the Campbellton area, Mrs. Vogt will be a strong addition to the staff,” said School District of Washington Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Kephart. “Her expertise and instructional engagement in the classroom will aid her leadership as Campbellton moves forward with the District‘s MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) goals and innovative teaching practices.”

A 2009 Washington High School graduate, Vogt (her maiden name is Moore) has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Central Methodist University, a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Lindenwood University, and a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Lindenwood University.

“I got into teaching to be an administrator. John Ragan and Dr. (Richard) Martin were my middle school principals and they treated every student wonderful. I was super involved with student council and leadership and loved the relationship I built with them. I always thought that they had such cool jobs. They really got me thinking about being an administrator and I knew to get there, I had to start out as a teacher,” Vogt said.

“I love elementary education. I love teaching. Leaving the classroom is going to be really hard for me. I truly love what I do. But I want to make sure other teachers love their job as much as I do. I want everyone to love coming to school the way I love coming to school. Education is the most powerful thing you can give someone to level the playing field. No matter what background they come from, if I can help educate them and help them grow and learn, that’s really rewarding.”

Vogt is eager to get to know and work with the Campbellton Elementary staff.

“Campbellton has a lot of great traditions, so keeping those up will be important. I want to make sure it continues to be a place where everyone is welcomed and there are a lot of smiling faces. It’s a tight-knit community,” she said. “Campbellton is one big family. Even though I’m from a larger school like Washington West, Kim Hunt and now Joe (Obermark) did a great job making this big building feel small and feel like a family. I know what it feels like, even though it’s a large building, to have that family community. I saw it at Augusta when I student taught there. Knowing every kid’s name, knowing their background and their family, those are the connections that I’m excited about.

“Campbellton is where I’ve lived for four years. It’s still bittersweet for me because I’m leaving the classroom. I love who I work with and I love the kids we have at Washington West. That part is hard. But I know it’s going to be awesome at Campbellton. It’s such a great place and I’m really excited about it. Knowing all the kids is going to be really cool. Being at Campbellton has always been the dream for me. “
